My opinion: Love love love this movie!!! Definitely one of my all time favorite movies!!!

Summary: What happens after Tanner is outed by his classmates and becomes the title “gay best friend” for three high school queen bees?
Big Eden (2000)

My opinion: Really hilarious. Basically just a ridiculous teen movie except it’s gay. Super great!

Summary: This is the story of Henry Hart, a successful New York Artist, who returns to the town of his childhood to care for the ailing grandfather who raised him. Back in Big Eden, Henry must come to terms with his relationship to Dean Stewart, his best friend from high School, as well as the object of his unrequited love.

Private Romeo (2011)

Genre: Drama

Summary: Shakespeare’s original lines from Romeo & Juliet are almost exclusively spoken in a military academy setting of his tale at which gay love blooms between two cadets.

Bedrooms and Hallways (1998)

Rating: Not Rated

Genre: Comedy/Romance

Summary: At the suggestion of a straight friend, gay man Leo joins a men’s group, where he causes some upsets by declaring his attraction to one of its members.

My opinion: Pretty good, although not my favorite. Still worth watching, though!

In & Out (1997)

Rating: PG-13

Genre: Comedy 

Summary: A midwestern teacher questions his sexuality after a former student makes a comment about him at the Academy Awards.

My opinion: Absolutely hilarious!! I watched it with my sister and we were both laughing our asses off the entire time. 

Victim (1961)

Genre: Crime/Drama

Summary: A prominent lawyer goes after a blackmailer who threatens gay men with exposure (homosexual acts still being illegal). But he’s gay himself…

Maurice (1987)

Summary: After his lover rejects him, a young man trapped by the oppressiveness of Edwardian society tries to come to terms with and accept his sexuality.

Wilde (1997)

Rating: R

Genre: Biography/Drama/History

Summary: The story of Oscar Wilde, genius, poet, playwright and the First Modern Man. The self-realization of his homosexuality caused Wilde enormous torment as he juggled marriage, fatherhood and responsibility with his obsessive love for Lord Alfred Douglas, nicknamed Bosie. After legal action instigated by Bosie’s father, the enraged Marquise of Queensberry, Wilde refused to flee the country and was sentenced to two years at hard labor by the courts of an intolerant Victorian society.

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)

Genre: Biography/Comedy/Crime

Summary: A cop turns con man once he comes out of the closet. Once imprisoned, he meets the second love of his life, whom he’ll stop at nothing to be with.

My opinion: A really great movie! It wasn’t what i was expecting but I really enjoyed it!!

Weekend (2011)

Summary: After a drunken house party with his straight mates, Russell heads out to a gay club. Just before closing time he picks up Glen but what’s expected to be just a one-night stand becomes something else, something special.

Romeos (2011)

Genre: Drama/Romance

Summary: A drama centered on the relationship between a young man and a transgender man.

My opinion: Very good, I got really attached to the main character (Lukas) which is always a plus to movies. Trigger warning for transphobia. (Also it’s in German so if you don’t speak German and aren’t able to follow subtitles easily keep that in mind)

My opinion: Really fantastic book! I haven’t finished it yet, but I’ve loved what I’ve read so far!

The Song of Achilles

Author: Madeline Miller

Summary: Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. Maurice

Author: E.M. Forster 

Summary: Set in the elegant Edwardian world of Cambridge undergraduate life, this story by a master novelist introduces us to Maurice Hall when he is fourteen. We follow him through public school and Cambridge, and on into his father’s firm, Hill and Hall, Stock Brokers. In a highly structured society, Maurice is a conventional young man in almost every way, “stepping into the niche that England had prepared for him”: except that his is homosexual.

Blind Fall

Author: Christopher Rice

Summary: Home from Iraq, John pays a visit to his former captain, only to discover the captain has been gruesomely murdered. Alex is, in fact, the former captain’s secret male lover and the killer’s intended next victim.

Summary: The true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her unorthodox psychiatrist who bore a striking resemblance to Santa Claus.

Rainbow Boys (part 1 of the Rainbow Trilogy)

Author: Alex Sanchez

Summary: Three teenage boys, coming of age and out of the closet. Rainbow High (part 2 of the Rainbow Trilogy)

Summary: It is the final semester of Jason Carillo’s, Kyle Meeks’s, and Nelson Glassman’s senior year of high school. They face the issues of coming out to the public, deciding which college to go to, and the ever-present threat of HIV/AIDS.

A Single Man

Author: Christopher Isherwood

More Happy Than Not

Author: Adam Silvera 

Summary: In the months after his father’s suicide, it’s been tough for sixteen-year-old Aaron Soto to find happiness again—but he’s still gunning for it.
